Design and Technology

All pupils at King's have the opportunity to study Design and Technology in four purpose built workrooms in the heart of the Design Centre. These facilities include two multimedia workshops, a design- CAD/CAM studio and an electronics/technology-resources room. During their Third Form classes they solve a series of practical problems that are based on structural engineering, materials and product design, electronics and mechanical engineering. Members of the Fourth and Fifth Form may choose to follow AQA's GCSE DT Resistant Materials syllabus. This encourages them to develop their creativity, technological skill and understanding to generate original solutions to a range of design problems. Sixth Form Students can choose to study AQA's AS and A2 Product Design Course. This provides them with the scope to design using all materials areas and technological fields as they work to compile a practical design folio and prepare for examinations.
In the early evening (between 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.) the workshops are open for activities. Many Students who are studying DT use this hour to extend what they have learned during class. Other students take advantage of this unstructured time to work on their own projects.
The DT Facilities at King's provide an invaluable resource to members of the School Community. There are three members of staff including two teachers and an Instructor technician.
