Welcome to the Department of Modern Languages
KSB Modern Languages Department is run by the Head of Modern Languages, Mrs E Loveless, who teaches Spanish to GCSE and French to 'A' Level.
Spanish at both levels is currently offered by Mrs L Bray and Mr. W. Dawe (Housemaster of New House),
The Department also offers German. Mrs C. Tickner organises this, currently up to GCSE and AS level, with Mrs Patterson also helping with some of the AS German.
French is taught to virtually all members of the school. All members of staff are qualified to teach French.
German and Spanish are optional choices from the Third Year onwards.
Italian is usually available as an accelerated course, (1 year to GCSE), in the Lower and Upper Sixth forms.
The Orchard block houses four dedicated language classrooms and language assistants are employed when feasible to help with exam classes in the preparation of oral work.
A study trip to the South of France is currently being planned for 4th-6th form students in French. Pupils studying Spanish are normally able to join a study trip to Spain at the end of the Easter Term.

All pupils are given the chance to take a second foreign language to GCSE, to accompany the compulsory, core French.
German is offered like Spanish to pupils arriving in the Third Year. It is offered as a taster course for about two weeks in September-October and pupils then select either German or Spanish for at least the duration of the year, and beyond to GCSE if so required.
It is taught on four or five periods every fortnight. German may be offered to AS and A2 on request.
