Mathematics Department

Welcome to the Mathematics Department. We believe that pupils here should be presented with a challenging, thought provoking, questioning, supportive and reflecting environment. Mathematics is exercise for the mind which we believe is beneficial. Puzzling for a period of time over a problem is good preparation for university and employment. Problems outside of the normal syllabus work are presented to our students throughout their course. Here is an example of one you might like to have a go at.

We can make a sum of 100 in this way 99+(9/9)= 100.

Using only four 9's and the mathematical operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, square root, factorial, brackets and a decimal point can you make sums which have sums ranging from 0 to 20. You must have exactly four 9's.
