Chemistry Educational Trips

On Monday 19th September, seven U6th Form chemists travelled to the University of Bristol to take part in a Spectroscopy Day.

The pupils attended a general lecture on Spectroscopy and then toured the NMR Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-ray Diffraction Departments. The pupils learnt the theory behind each technique and also what each could be used for. This trip has once again proved to be a great help for studying A-Level Chemistry alongside providing pupils with an excellent opportunity to see with their own eyes what studying the subject at university level entails. The highlight of the day had to be when Yan had a go at using the Scanning Electron Microscope!
