History Trips Abroad

Twenty-six senior pupils and three members of staff have recently returned from an excellent History Trip to Munich, Nuremberg and Leipzig.

The trip focused on looking at historical sites associated with Third Reich Germany and the Cold War. We were very lucky to stay in three amazing hotels which were unbelievably luxurious! The first two days were spent in Munich, one day was spent in Nuremberg and then the final two days were spent in Leipzig. There were numerous sites of particular interest across the jampacked five days. In Munich it was incredible to visit the Hofbrauhaus for an evening meal and equally amazing to be toured round all the former Nazi sites in the city associated with Hitler’s failed 1923 putsch. A poignant time was spent in Dachau where pupils were gripped by the stories and detail provided by our excellent guide. Nuremberg was a fascinating city and the afternoon spent touring round the former Nazi Rally Grounds was incredible. Indeed, there is something amazing about standing in the very places where significant moments of history have taken place. Leipzig proved to be an incredibly interesting city; visiting the former Stasi Headquarters and Stasi Bunker was incredibly eye-opening. Our final stop of Colditz was ‘the cherry on the cake’ with all of us being gripped with the stories of escapes and attempted escapes. All in all, the trip was a great success and we look forward to many more in future years! An album and video montage from the trip can be viewed below.
