Inspiring Art Trip To Tate Modern & Georgia O'Keeffe Exhibition

Art Educational Trips

The Art trip to the Tate Modern was a huge success and thoroughly enjoyed by all the pupils involved, writes Wayne Spilsbury - Head of Art.

After orientating the group to the School’s room on Level 0 the 5th Form were escorted to Level 3 and the Georgia O’Keeffe Exhibition. Viewing their work later I was very impressed with the standard of work produced. Meanwhile the 6th Form were taken to the new Switch House and then up to Level 10 for panoramic sketches of the London skyline. After that we travelled back to Level 4 and the Louise Bourgeois galleries which will also be the focus of the new Hauser & Wirth exhibition next month in Bruton. Both year groups then visited the suite of galleries themed ‘In the studio’ on Level 2 before the 6th Form went to see the O’Keefe Exhibition.

The sometimes perplexing concepts presented to the 5th Form by the breadth of art at the Tate Modern is timed to coincide with them brainstorming their ideas and theme for the final element of their coursework. In addition it provides evidence of critical and contextual analysis with work at first hand. This will hopefully inspire them at just the right moment. For the 6th Form this also provide an opportunity to satisfy similar requirements along with some more in depth appreciation of key female artists.
