Choir Music

On Sunday 30th April the Chapel Choir were in residence at Bristol Cathedral in the absence of the Cathedral Choir who were enjoying a post-Easter holiday.

This was the first time that the Chapel Choir had sung Sunday services and in particular, a morning Eucharist. The Chapel Choir rose to the occasion and gave a superb lead in the service, singing Darke in F which included solos from: Imogen, Lucy, Alexander, Oscar and Tom. During the communion the motet ‘Tantum Ergo’ by Widor raised the roof! The Chapel Choir enjoyed leading the worship in the presence of a large and very appreciative congregation. After eating lunch on Park Street, the Chapel Choir performed a service of Choral Evensong the music for which included:

  • Responses: Nardone
  • Psalm 48
  • Canticles: Dyson in D
  • Anthem: Let the people praise thee, O God (Mathias)

It was particularly good to have Alexander acting as cantor for the Preces and Responses for the final time as a pupil at King’s. The performance of the Mathias anthem was particularly exciting with all the syncopation and dissonant harmony. All the preparation for the day certainly paid off and the Chapel Choir were congratulated by the Canon Precentor on the quality of their singing and indeed invited to return to Bristol Cathedral to sing again!
