We are never too small to make a difference

Biology Academic Success

In Biology, the 4th Form have just finished learning about the impact Humans are having on the Environment.

I have been hugely impressed by the quality of work submitted by all the pupils during this part of the course and their passion and enthusiasm shown for this ever increasingly relevant and important topic. The whole of my class have come up with brilliant everyday ideas as to how we can reduce our impact on the environment and it’s been amazing to hear how many great solutions they already have in place in their own households.

Many fantastic pieces of work were completed this term, including the impacts of the fast fashion industry highlighted by Isabel and sustainability lessons we can learn from the Norse colonisation of Greenland in 980 by Joseph, but the piece that stood out was a PodCast written and produced by Georgia. The PodCast earnt Georgia a Headmaster’s Distinction, and it not only addresses the science behind global warming but also focuses on sustainable measures we can all adopt. She finishes her PodCast with an extremely important question - one which we should all consider: “We are never too small to make a difference, so what are you going to do?”

Kate Flavell - Head of Biology

My PodCast about global warming and the effects of climate change on the planet is something I feel that everybody should hear about as it is such an important topic. Throughout writing the PodCast and researching all about it, I started to change a few of my habits too. They weren’t massive changes, but as I say in my PodCast, the small things really do add up and really will make a difference.

I was delighted to award Georgia a well deserved Headmaster’s Distinction for her PodCast. Miss Flavell, Georgia’s Biology teacher, was impressed with the work of the whole class, but Georgia’s PodCast really stood out. This is another example of our pupils engaging positively with remote lessons.
