Food Science & Nutrition Curriculum
The 3rd Form pupils have a timetabled two hour lesson every two weeks, in which they learn all the practical skills required for independent healthy eating. If they choose to take their studies forward to the GCSE level, they will become confident practitioners who evaluate and reflect on practical outcomes, alongside sustainable production and nutritional content.
Our pupils have followed very diverse career routes on completion of their studies at King’s, including degree level courses in Sport Science, Events Management, International Hospitality (UK & Australian Universities), Norland, Food Retail Management and Dietetic and Business Degrees. Pupils engaged in Sixth Form studies enjoy a wide selection of visits to local and prestigious businesses and exhibitions.
Lessons are a combination of exploratory food science investigations, nutritional theory with practical application.
Food Science and Nutrition Curriculum
Our dynamic GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition specification (AQA exam board) equips students with an array of culinary techniques, as well as a focus on five key areas of study: nutrition and health, food science, provenance, food choice and food safety.
The course is divided into 50% Coursework made up of Non-Exam Assessments and 50% Exam. Coursework is completed under controlled conditions and incorporates food science and food & nutrition tasks.
