As a full boarding school, King’s benefits from a vibrant and busy community throughout the week and at weekends. This creates an exceptional range of opportunities for both day and boarding pupils, with activities, events and enrichment woven into daily life. From after-school clubs and rehearsals to weekend trips, competitions and performances, there is always something taking place across the campus.
Each week, pupils can choose from more than 70 co-curricular activities, with the majority taking place between 4.30pm and 5.30pm from Monday to Friday. The programme is deliberately broad and inclusive, ensuring that every pupil can find opportunities that match their interests, talents and ambitions. Whether they are looking to challenge themselves, develop a new skill or simply have fun with friends, there is something for everyone.
The range of activities reflects the diverse interests of our pupils. A typical term might include Astrophotography, Chess, Debating, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Military Band, MotorSport, Rock Band, Coding, Creative Writing, School Magazine, Drama, Art, Cooking, Fitness, Zumba and a wide variety of sports. Pupils can pursue competitive ambitions, develop leadership skills, express their creativity or explore entirely new interests in a supportive environment.
The programme continues to evolve each term, shaped by pupil feedback and emerging interests. At the start of every term, pupils attend an Activities Convention where they can explore the opportunities available, learn about new clubs and select the activities they would most like to join. This ensures that the programme remains fresh, relevant and genuinely pupil-led.
One of the greatest strengths of co-curricular life at King’s is the way it brings together pupils from different year groups, backgrounds and interests. New friendships are formed, confidence grows and pupils develop valuable qualities such as teamwork, perseverance, leadership and communication. Many discover talents they never knew they had, while others find opportunities to excel in areas they already love.
For our boarders, the richness of the programme helps create a true home-from-home environment, while day pupils benefit from having access to the same breadth of opportunities and the chance to remain fully involved in school life beyond the academic day. Together, they form part of a thriving community where every pupil is encouraged to make the most of every opportunity.
At King’s, learning does not stop when lessons end. The co-curricular programme is a vital part of the King's experience, helping pupils become confident, well-rounded young people with the curiosity, character and enthusiasm to embrace whatever comes next.
The extra-curricular programme is a strength of the school, catering for interests as diverse as yoga and the Combined Cadet Force, as well as an extensive range of musical activities. All pupils take part in activities and questionnaire responses indicate that this programme is very highly valued by pupils and parents alike.
