Beautiful Concert At St Thomas Church Wells

Concert Music

On Sunday afternoon the Chapel Choir gave an afternoon concert at St Thomas’s Church Wells, writes David Gorodi, Director of Music.

The afternoon was delightful; very well attended and raised over £400 towards the school charity, World Child Cancer. The Chapel Choir performed a repertoire which they normally sing for Evensong, my favourite item was probably L’Estrage’s Love’s Philosophy, Three songs of Love. The choir sung this beautifully, if you don’t know this work I recommend that you take a look!

A number of soloists were also featured, Rebecca Bracey performed Poulenc’s Sonata No.1, this was the best performance that I’ve heard from Rebecca; she played the difficult double tonging section with great accuracy, she made it sound easy! Another stand out soloist was Ella Corlett, she had just come from the Taunton young singer of the year competition winning £150, she came second to a slightly older girl. Ella sung Copland’s Why do they keep me out of Heaven? It was easy to see why she had done so well in the morning’s competition! My congratulations to all in involved.
