On Friday 25th January, King’s welcomed 17 Prep Schools from across the South West to play in the IAPS West Qualifying Tournament.

The morning saw some fantastic play from all the schools with some very exciting and skilful hockey on display. Whilst only the top two teams from the four pools progressed to the Cup Competition, the 3rd and 4th placed teams entered the Plate Competition, thus ensuring lots of matches for each team at the event.

In the Cup Competition, Chafyn Grove, Castle Court, Dumpton and Taunton Prep went through as group winners, whilst Durlston Court, Monkton Combe, Sherborne Prep and King’s Hall joined them in the Quarter Finals. The plate competition was a very tightly contested event, with numerous matches being settled by ‘golden goal’ or penalty strokes. However, Port Regis finished as Plate Winners, having defeated Lambrook in the final with Hazlegrove and All Hallows finished 3rd and 4th respectively. In the main Cup Competition, there continued to be some really exciting matches to be played and it was King’s Hall who produced the best hockey in the afternoon as they won the tournament ahead of Monkton Combe in second, Durlston Court in third and Sherborne Prep in fourth position.

A huge thank you must go to all the players who acquitted themselves so well throughout the day, playing some wonderful hockey with an excellent attitude and spirit and also thanks to the King’s staff as well as the supporting parents and coaches who contributed to making it such an enjoyable day of hockey.

Henry Eriksson - Director of Hockey.
