Sixth Form Educational Trips

The L6th Form Philosophers enjoyed a trip to Blandford School to hear renowned Philosophy lecturer, Peter Radford, speak on Morality, God, Gender & Identity.

The format of the day saw Peter deliver four unique and highly engaging lectures to a group of 6th Form pupils from across the South West. Our pupils enjoyed Peter’s challenge that philosophers hold the key to shaping our societies’ futures for the better. The first lecture on morality was especially interesting as it tied in a lot of material with our A Level specification. Pupils considered how various moral theories, such as utilitarianism, could be applied to hot topics such as euthanasia, simulated killing (computer games) and eating meat. The second lecture focused on various different types of arguments for God’s existence. Peter ran us through many of the different philosophical arguments which support why over 90% of the world’s people believe in the existence of a God. After a quick lunchbreak, which was full of fiery philosophical discussion, we considered how ideas surrounding gender and our identity are changing and how a philosophical approach can shape our paths as we seek to find truth about our identity.

All in all, the day proved to be of great worth, with pupils taking notes, answering questions and above all debating lots of the material we learnt about.
