A Week Of Lenten Addresses Proved Popular Across The School

Chaplaincy Guest Speakers

The Chaplaincy was pleased to run its 17th annual Lenten Addresses between Wednesday 13th and Friday 15th March. The week proved to be very popular across the School.

The Lenten Addresses are put on each year during the Easter Term to provide pupils with an opportunity to engage with some of life’s biggest questions surrounding the Christian Faith if they would like to do so. Tom, our visiting speaker this year, delivered an engaging talk on Wednesday during our weekly whole school Chapel Service. Following that, the John Davie Room was packed on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings at 8:30pm as pupils came to hear Tom deliver three excellent talks on the theme of “Identity”. During the talks pupils also enjoyed some special edible treats, ranging from Domino’s Pizza on Wednesday evening through to Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream and popcorn on the Friday evening. Alongside these addresses, at teatime on Wednesday and Thursday two of our Lenten Addresses volunteers led some short engaging discussions looking at contemporary issues within Christianity.

I’ve said it before as Chaplain, and I’ll say it again: I know I’m biased, but in my opinion it is healthy and right to take matters of faith seriously and that investigation should be risk free and full of fun – the Lenten Addresses provide the perfect opportunity to do just that!

My sincere thanks to Tom, Lucy, Alex and Pete, our amazing team of visiting volunteers, alongside all the staff who helped to make the week so much fun and worthwhile.
