As the festive season gets into full swing, pupils at King’s were lucky enough to have the Quantum Theatre company come and perform a dramatic version of ‘A Christmas Carol’.

Due to the School Theatre being used for the Christmas Musical The Wizard of Oz, the actors built their set and performed their play in the Memorial Hall, which proved to be a lovely setting. The actors trained voices carried well and the pupils really enjoyed the experience of having a performance of a book that they have been studying. It gives an added dimension when you can see professional actors performing the words that you have so recently been reading. At the end of the performance the actors took some questions from King’s pupils; it was impressive to learn that this group of actors had learned their parts, and rehearsed the performance, in just nine days! Not only were they word perfect, but when in role the characters were very believable, and the audience quickly became absorbed into the world of Dickens’ story. It was great to be reminded through the story that Christmas is a time to focus on and practice kindness and forgiveness; it was also special to see the importance of opening one’s heart in order to think of other people. As Scrooge’s nephew says about Christmas “I believe that it has done me good, and will do me good; and I say, God bless it!”
