Prep School Days Hockey

Wednesday afternoon saw prep schools from the local area come to King’s to compete in the annual U11 and U13 Tyndalls’ and Hippisley Trophies respectively.

Played in some fairly wet conditions, spirits weren’t dampened as there was some fantastic hockey on display in both tournaments. It was wonderful to see the skill levels, sportsmanship and effort on display by all the girls involved.

In the U13 competition, there were some very closely contested pool matches, however at the end of the group stages, it was Hazlegrove and Millfield Prep who went through as group winners and they were joined by Port Regis and Sandroyd to complete the semi-final line up. Hazlegrove overcame Port Regis in the first semi-final, whilst Millfield Prep were clinical in front of goal to secure their passage to the final.

A very enjoyable and exciting final between Hazlegrove and Millfield Prep saw both teams attack with pace and skill and it was Millfield who eventually prospered, scoring a good breakaway goal to win 1-0 and secure the Hippisley Trophy. Port Regis finished third, whilst Sandroyd ended up in fourth after a good afternoon of hockey.

Equally, the U11 competition was just as exciting with the girls playing some very entertaining hockey. At the end of the pool stages it was Hazlegrove, Dumpton, Queen’s College and Salisbury Cathedral who had qualified themselves for the semi-finals. After two excellent matches, it was Dumpton and Salisbury Cathedral who went through to contest the final and Salisbury were the eventual winners, taking home the Tyndalls' Trophy for the first time. Queen’s finished third ahead of Hazlegrove in fourth.

A huge thank you must go to all the coaches, parents, pupils and King’s staff in helping the tournament run so smoothly and effectively.
