Art Academic Success

The most recent King's Art Gallery exhibition 'Me, Myself & I' has left spectators thoroughly impressed by the level of talent present in the School's GCSE Art pupils.

At the end of the 4th Form in the Summer Term and over the holidays the GCSE Art pupils researched portrait photographers that interested them. Their research took in a broad range of portrait photographers and was the stimulus to their explorations of this medium. In the Christmas Term the pupils planned and undertook their own photo shoots. They were then taught a range of Adobe Photoshop skills to allow them to develop their final prints. This work comprises one small element of their final coursework theme.

A number of pupils produced some incredibly exciting work. Of particular note were: Kitty Taylor who explored a variety of ways to look at images that concealed or interfered with physical appearance; Daniel Wang who worked with multiple transparent overlays to create sophisticated outcomes; Will Sandy who used make up and props to produce striking images; Rhodri Harper who was inspired by Nigel Tomm to screw up, deface and distress his photos before then re-photographing them and Yi Fan who produced dreamlike images using various masking and layering techniques together with creative lighting. An online gallery of the photos can be viewed below.
