Art Guest Speakers

On Friday 29th November we were delighted to welcome Artist, James Alfred Hart currently residing in Hackney Wick, London to deliver a series of dynamic workshops as part of the Art Enrichment programme.

Pupils had an opportunity to explore Abstract Art though colour, mark-making and form. James was able to inspire pupils through sharing his passion for experiencing other cultures through travel, recorded in his incredible sketchbooks. He was able to share his stories and take pupils on a journey exploring the insights behind his first-hand observations primarily using a wide range of pigments, mark-making and colour.

The workshop consisted of a series of activities aimed at giving pupils a real insight into his practice which primarily involves playing with pigments such as using a squeegee to create vibrant colour flooding experiments through pushing coloured pigments across the surface to create spontaneous effects. This was followed by exploring a range of experimental mark-making techniques using sticks, leaves and natural forms collected from the surrounding environment. Finally, referencing influential Abstract Artists such as Juan Miro and Howard Hodgkin, we were able to explore methods and share top tips to help construct pupils striking compositions using colour, mark-making and form.

James has kindly donated a range of vibrant artworks produced during his extended time at King’s Bruton to be exhibited alongside pupils’ responses to his workshops. We look forward to curating an exhibition space at King’s in the New Year and celebrating the great artworks produced during this successful Art Enrichment workshop.

James is currently represented by gallery in the Miami, USA called Design Art Concepts. Please follow the link to discover more…https://www.artsy.net/artist/james-alfred-hart.
