KSB Motorsport Junior Team Shows Pace and Resilience at Dunsfold Park
The KSB Motorsport Junior Team continued their impressive progress in the Greenpower F24 category at Dunsfold Park, producing an excellent opening race before facing a technical setback in the second race.
It was also great to welcome some of the team’s new third-form members who were able to gain valuable experience of competitive racing while learning from the more established members of the Team whilst contributing to its future development.
In the first race, the Junior Team’s car competed against a strong field of 35 vehicles. An excellent start saw the car running in around fifth position after the opening lap. The drivers then showed impressive skill and consistency, completing more than 40 laps and 31½ miles before securing a superb 7th-place finish at the end. The race also provided an opportunity to develop the team’s strategic approach. A planned pit change strategy helped manage driver changes and maintain performance throughout the race. The drivers, team engineers and support crew carried out the changes efficiently and confidently, demonstrating that success depends not only on speed but also on effective teamwork and decision-making.
This result showed how far the Junior Team has progressed. However, it was slightly short of the result needed to qualify for the Greenpower International Finals, leaving the team tantalisingly close to securing a place.
For the second race, a new trio of drivers took to the track to gain further experience. Unfortunately, their race was interrupted by a terminal issue with the rear axle and drive chain.
The team immediately worked to find a solution and attempted to return the car to the track, but despite their determination and problem-solving efforts, time eventually ran out. Although disappointing, their response demonstrated the resilience, teamwork and engineering skills that have become a trademark of this group.
What makes the team’s performance particularly encouraging is that this has been the Junior Team’s first full year of Greenpower racing. Over the course of a single season, they have developed from a new group learning the demands of competitive motorsport into a confident and increasingly competitive race team. The improvement in driving, engineering, race strategy, pit stops and problem-solving has been considerable, with each event providing lessons that the team has successfully carried forward into the next.
There is much to celebrate in their first season. A series of increasingly competitive performances, culminating in challenging for a place at the Greenpower International Finals, demonstrates just how much has been achieved in a relatively short period of time.
Over the coming months, the team will use everything learned during their first season to continue developing both the car and their approach to racing. The aim will be to return next season with some new team members, drivers and an even more reliable, efficient and competitive vehicle, ready to build on the excellent foundations established during the inaugural year.
Well done to everyone involved – an excellent performance at Dunsfold Park and a first season of which the KSB Motorsport Junior Team can be extremely proud.
