King’s was alive with music and House spirit as the annual Inter-House Music Festival got underway last night, filling the school with energy, anticipation and plenty of House pride.

This year, the Festival has been split into two events, with the House Song round taking place separately from the Solo and Ensemble competition, which will be held in the week before February half term. The House Song round provided a superb opening to this year’s Festival, bringing pupils together in a celebration of singing, creativity and House spirit.

We were delighted to welcome Mrs Becky Arch, newly appointed Director of Music at Hazlegrove, as our adjudicator. It was wonderful to have Becky with us and to benefit from her expertise and experience as she listened to each House performance and offered insightful feedback.

The evening saw each House take to the stage in the Memorial Hall, with pupils demonstrating enthusiasm and teamwork. The competition provides a wonderful opportunity for pupils to take responsibility for every aspect of their performance, from musical direction and rehearsal scheduling to staging and performance. The commitment and creativity that had gone into each performance were clear to see, and my thanks and congratulations go to all those in each House who took on a leading role.

Congratulations to all the pupils involved for their hard work, commitment and outstanding performances. Particular congratulations go to Wellesley House, who were crowned winners of the House Song round for the second year running! However, it is all still to play for in terms of crowning the overall Festival winner, with the same number of points still available across the Solo and Ensemble rounds combined.

Our sincere thanks go to Mrs Arch for joining us as adjudicator and for sharing her expertise with the pupils. We look forward to continuing the Festival in February, when the Solo and Ensemble rounds will provide another opportunity for pupils to showcase their musical talents.
