Lower Sixth Food Science pupils visit Higher Farm to learn about regenerative farming methods
Today Lower Sixth Food Science pupils visited Higher Farm and listened to a talk from Matteo about regenerative farming methods. This focused on building ‘food forests,’ essentially planting a diversity of trees amongst their crops to mimic forest ecosystems that in return regenerate biodiversity and produce nutrient dense food.
Pupils were lucky enough to have a tour of the farm and learn about Higher Farm’s organic produce, resulting in their production of their organic beetroot ketchup. Today they were harvesting the beetroot.
This trip formed part of their learning about factors affecting food choice and environmental issues such as deforestation, climate change and carbon footprint.
A brilliant insight and we are so lucky to have Higher Farm on our doorstep.
