Chemistry

Why study Chemistry?

From the extremes of  astrochemistry of very distant worlds over 50 light years from Earth to the even more unimaginable interactions in nanoscience, Chemistry and its fundamental  principles are essential not only to our way of life but also to our individual existence.  The principles of Chemistry relate to our personal biochemistries – and the results on growth, movement , reproduction, sensitivity, growth, respiration,  excretion and nutrition as well as the wealth of materials we use and may someday use in our lives.

Chemistry is the central science and impacts on all facets of our lives for example in the kitchen, cars, leisure, sports, foods, dyes, polymers, metals, medicines, and hygiene.

Chemistry develops a wide variety of skills: communication, literacy, precision, comprehension, imagination, presentation, conceptualisation, numeracy, in addition to developing the knowledge base. The areas of specialisation in this subject at University and beyond are vast – depending more on imagination than practicality.  In a world where scientific development is outstripping industry, government and the law, a firm basis in Chemistry will prove a very useful tool in a rapidly developing world.

At A level, Chemistry is not for everyone but for those who decide to further develop their Chemistry, they usually find it as interesting as it is challenging.

Many problems face the world in our futures. Be a part of the solutions – study Chemistry.
