6th Form pupils exploring creative careers pathways at the UCAS Creative Careers Fair...
On Monday 3rd October, a group of Sixth Form pupils travelled to the Excel Exhibition Centre in London to participate in the Creative Futures UCAS event.
Accompanied by Mr Cole and Miss Miller, pupils and teachers had the opportunity to explore the current creative courses and potential career pathways on offer with university representatives from all corners of the UK. There were talks and performances from current students, with Q&A’s including lectures, sharing insights and preparing students for interviews, writing portfolios, and spotlighting career opportunities. A highlight included an inspiring dance performance, titled ‘Internal’ by Lucy Mulford from De Montfort University. This first-hand experience and audience led Q&A session, was beneficial for all, and gave an insight into behind the scenes, along with a grasp of course expectations from a student’s perspective.
This invaluable experience has equipped pupils and given them the confidence to make the next steps towards narrowing their potential course options and move towards higher education. All who attended made the most of the trip and it was a pleasure to discuss future pathways and potential course options as they move towards making their own UCAS applications.
All round this was a fantastic event, supporting the future of the creative industries, and it was invaluable in terms of forging new links with university providers. The chance to discuss course specification, routes, and potential pathways alongside working out student finance, all under one roof, was by no means a stroll in the park. We look forward to expanding our links with universities and we hope to run a series of creative workshops in the coming months to inspire our current cohort of talented artists and designers, watch this space!
