Our Director of Grounds, Graham Kitley, talks about the challenges of keeping the grounds in tip top condition...

The Christmas term was tough from a weather point of view. We started off in drought, constantly battling to try and keep the moisture into the surfaces, allowing rugby to be played. When the rain did eventually arrive, it hasn’t really stopped. Only for a week where we had snow and an arctic blast. However, despite all this we still managed to get all pupils out playing sport on the pitches, and the gardens looked beautiful for everyone to enjoy around the School. I really must say thank you to my team for all their hard work and dedication. Their commitment is the reason we achieve all our goals and create surfaces and surroundings for everyone to enjoy.

As we enter the New Year, and the Easter term, rain has already hampered us, but it’s a case of being patient, and not rushing to take on tasks that could be made worse by the weather. We are finishing all the little jobs, like painting benches and servicing machinery, and this will get us ready for the cricket season, which will be on us before we know it. We hope, as a team, that 2023 is fantastic for everyone here at King's. The smell of freshly cut grass is just around the corner.
