CCF SSI REQUIRED SEPTEMBER 2026
King’s Bruton is an HMC co-educational boarding and day school of 330+ pupils aged 13-18.
A well-qualified, ambitious and dynamic School Staff Instructor (SSI) is required to support the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) at King’s Bruton. The SSI, under the direction of the Contingent Commander is integral to the successful running of the CCF. As SSI, you will have responsibility for training cadets, supporting field training and camps, overseeing the CCF administration, and will be responsible for the security of the buildings and equipment.
The Combined Cadet Force at King’s School, Bruton is one of the oldest CCFs in the country and celebrated its centenary in 2010. Consisting of both the Army and Navy sections, the CCF remains very popular, with strong uptake across the year groups. The CCF programme helps to encourage those pupils with an interest in the services, with an increasing number of Old Brutonians joining the armed forces. Recently, this included an Old Brutonian who received the Sword of Honour from King Charles III at Sandhurst in April 2023.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a thriving CCF contingent, and to support an exciting programme of training and events for cadets. The role would suit an individual with strong military experience and the relevant cadet qualifications. The successful candidate will need to have strong organisational skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work closely with colleagues across all areas of the school.
Both full time and part time positions will be considered for the right candidate.
For applicants looking for a part-time role, the pattern of working will be agreed on appointment, but we anticipate the commitment to be at least 3 days each week during term-time, to include CCF afternoons on Fridays. Additional hours will occasionally be required at weekends and during the School’s holidays for training and camps.
A degree of flexibility will be required to enable duties to be completed at times outside of the usual school day.
For candidates wishing to work more hours, it may be possible to combine this role with another part-time position at the School. The SSI may claim Volunteer Allowance for up to 51 training days from the MOD. For some there would be the additional opportunity to join the Contingent as a CFAV, holding appropriate Officer rank; this would enable an additional Volunteer Allowance to be claimed for up to 28 additional training days from the MOD.
Letters of application, completed application forms with curriculum vitae, should be sent to [email protected]
