Physical topics include the landscapes of the UK, tropical rainforests and natural hazards. Geography provides young people with greater awareness of life on Earth and the skills gained across our courses contribute to their employability in the future.
In the 3rd Form, we cover a broad range of topics, including glaciers, tourism and changing cities. The 3rd Form syllabus provides an introduction to a number of geographical areas, whilst also preparing pupils for future study.
The department runs an international fieldtrip every two years, with our most recent trips being to the Azores and Iceland. These trips provide a spectacular real-world 'classroom' in which to study a fascinating range of topics.
In addition, there are various opportunities to take part in fieldwork in and around Bruton, and in other locations in the South West, such as Bristol and the Dorset Coast. These trips develop pupils' investigative and practical skills, equipping them well for future research in the field.

At GCSE, we study the AQA GCSE Geography Specification, which includes the topics: Urban Challenges, Living World, Physical Landscapes of the UK, Natural Hazards, Resource Management and the Changing Economic World.
At A Level we study the Cambridge International AS and A Level Syllabus which includes the topics: Hydrology and Fluvial Geomorphology, Atmosphere and Weather, Rocks and Weathering, Population, Migration, and Settlement Dynamics at AS Level. At A2 we will be looking at Coastal Environments, Hazardous Environments, Environmental Management and Global Interdependence. This course is designed to allow non-GCSE geography students to join the department at A Level at no disadvantage.
