Careers and Higher Education

Whether a pupil’s path leads to university, an apprenticeship, or straight into the world of work, King’s offers a vibrant and forward‑looking programme designed to guide, inspire and prepare them. Our well‑established Careers and Higher Education Forum brings professionals from a wide range of industries onto campus each year, giving pupils real insight into different careers and the journeys that lead to them.

Throughout the Sixth Form, pupils meet representatives from a broad range of universities—both UK and international—with more than 50 institutions visiting King’s annually to share advice, opportunities and inspiration. For pupils exploring apprenticeships, our specialist support is equally strong: apprenticeship advisers and providers visit the school regularly, and our Apprenticeship Adviser, Mrs Marie Goffe, offers expert, personalised guidance to help pupils navigate this increasingly exciting route.

Individual Paths, Individual Futures

Planning for life after King’s can feel both exhilarating and daunting. That’s why our approach is personal to the individual student. The Head of Sixth Form and team of tutors provide thoughtful, tailored support, taking the time to understand each pupil’s strengths, ambitions and preferred direction. There is no expectation that paths should look the same, only that each young person finds the route that suits them best.

Pupils and their parents meet regularly with the Head of Sixth Form for one‑to‑one discussions, ensuring that every decision is well‑informed and every next step is chosen with confidence. Whether a pupil dreams of a competitive university course, an international opportunity, a vocational pathway, a creative industry or an apprenticeship, they receive the guidance needed to turn ambition into reality.

A Confident Step Into the Future

By the time pupils leave King’s Bruton, they do so with more than strong qualifications. They leave with clarity of purpose, confidence in their abilities, and the resilience, curiosity and independence that come from being part of a community where they are truly known. Life beyond the Sixth Form is full of opportunity, and at King’s, pupils are equipped and encouraged to embrace it with energy and ambition.

Universities

For those applying to university in the UK or overseas, pupils will receive detailed and individual assistance with the application processes, with writing statements and deciding destinations.

Selective Courses

For those aiming for the most selective courses, such as Oxford, Cambridge and Medicine, we offer successful programmes with dedicated support from elite universities specialist, Dr Corrigan.

Careers

Pupils build on this guidance with CV and application letter training, as well as a mock interview scheme with experienced professionals during their U6th Form Year.

Apprenticeship

The Deputy Head (Sixth Form) regularly takes pupils to university conferences, career specific events, global university forums and more.

Leavers' Destinations

We are proud of our ongoing university successes, both with highly-ranked UK universities, and in gaining places at universities in the USA, Australia, Spain, the Netherlands, Hong Kong and more, with many pupils being awarded scholarships.

On leaving the school, most pupils continue into higher education, with applications covering a wide range of courses and universities, including many that are highly competitive.

ISI Report

King's not only gave me the platform to succeed academically, but it's where I made my closest, lifelong friendships. King's taught me that with the right effort, teamwork, and belief, you could always exceed the expectations of others. I'll never forget the incredible rugby, hockey and cricket victories we achieved over schools often double or triple our size, and it all came down to belief in ourselves to outperform. It's a key lesson I've carried with me since leaving King's.

Our Alumni

A pupil’s connection with King’s does not end when they leave; in many ways, it enters an exciting new chapter. We are proud to maintain strong, enduring relationships with our Old Brutonians, celebrating their achievements and supporting them as they transition into higher education, gap years, employment or further training. The King’s community extends far beyond the school gates, offering a network of friendship, guidance and opportunity that lasts long after pupils have completed their time here.
