Our balanced community is something we are especially proud of. King’s has a grounded, down-to-earth culture built on respect, support, and honesty. Day pupils benefit from the richness of boarding life and also have the option to board up to three nights a week, while boarders enjoy the flexibility at weekends and a full and varied programme of activities.
This strong boarding ethos helps pupils grow in confidence and character, preparing them for life beyond school. In the safety of a nurturing, family-style environment, they learn to be independent, responsible, and considerate, supported by staff who guide them through each stage of school life.
Our boarding ethos creates an environment where pupils can grow in confidence, develop character, and explore their independence within a safe and supportive community. Each House is designed to feel like a home, with Housemasters and Housemistresses fostering strong, lasting relationships across all year groups.
Thursday evenings are a highlight of the week, with dedicated House Nights that bring pupils together for fun, friendship, and shared experiences. Activities range from baking and dodgeball to movie nights, pamper sessions, bingo, and quizzes. These evenings also offer opportunities for joint events between Houses, encouraging wider social connections, as well as Pastoral Tutor Sessions and special year-group gatherings such as Ceilidh dancing and formal dinners.

Weekends are full and engaging. All pupils attend Saturday morning lessons and afternoon sport, followed by relaxed, sociable House time. Junior pupils enjoy their own space in the Junior Common Room, while Sixth Formers have a dedicated club area to unwind with friends—always under staff supervision. Sundays offer a blend of organised activities such as cinema trips, paintballing, and shopping, as well as time to relax, catch up on work, or enjoy the gym. A much-loved highlight is the Sunday evening “take-away” supper from the Dining Room, the perfect end to a busy week.

Our boarding was rated “outstanding” during an inspection. We were pleased that Inspectors have highlighted how this Independent Boarding School provides an outstanding level of care for the children it accommodates:
This is achieved by a sound management group overseeing the implementation of effective policies and procedures by a staff group who are well trained and supervised. The activities and leisure resources available to boarders are impressive in range and quality. Without exception, all boarders spoken to during the course of the inspection said that they felt safe in the School.
