For international students, joining King’s offers so much more than an excellent education. It provides the exciting opportunity to immerse themselves fully in the culture, traditions and academic life of the United Kingdom. Living and learning in a British boarding school allows pupils to develop their independence, strengthen their language skills, and experience the very best of the UK’s educational approach—all within a supportive and nurturing environment.

Pastoral Care

The care and support pupils receive at King’s is exceptional. Our strong pastoral and academic systems mean that everyone, from our Deputy Heads and Tutors to our House Mistresses, Housemasters and amazing matrons, provide outstanding wraparound care for pupils at King’s.

Every year, we welcome pupils from all over the world. Around half of our children board, and we intentionally keep our overseas pupil numbers small. This ensures that those who do join us from abroad can fully immerse themselves in the culture of a British education before moving on to the next stage of their academic journey.

Boarding

Boarding is at the heart of life at King’s Bruton, and our boarding and day pupils are fully integrated within each of our six Houses. This creates a genuine family atmosphere where friendships flourish and every pupil feels a deep sense of belonging. For our boarders, having day pupils as part of their house creates a more vibrant and dynamic “home from home,” offering wider social circles, shared experiences, and a strong, inclusive community that supports genuine, long-lasting friendships.

Weekends are varied and engaging, with activities including bowling and laser tag, and overseas pupils can stay in school for exeat weekends. This flexibility is hugely valued by our international families.

Academic Support

Our EAL (English as an Additional Language) Department enables pupils whose first language is not English to thrive academically and personally. Pupils work towards recognised English speaking qualifications (Cambridge and IELTS), helping them to develop strong communication skills and gain confidence in both academic and everyday contexts. Our dedicated staff team plays a key role in helping pupils settle into life in the UK.

From studying for a term, a year or longer, there are lots of options available, including our popular three-year A Level/BTEC pathway designed to develop strong academic and English language skills. Pupils study 3-4 subjects while building subject knowledge, assessment skills and language ability through focused EAL support. In Year 3, pupils complete three subjects gaining the qualifications needed for university entry.

A small historical bastion of a school that is absolutely booming in the 21st century.

The Good Schools Guide

Attending King's quite literally changed my life. Not only did I start to enjoy learning, something I had never done in my previous school, but I made friends for life. King's was formative in making me who I am today.

Houseparents are praised for getting to know pupils very quickly and facilitating caring environment with strong intermixing between year groups.

The Good Schools Guide

One of my proudest moments was being appointed a School Prefect and I now represent the international community at King’s.”
