Mr Stephen Edlmann MA (Senior Warden)

Senior Warden

Stephen Edlmann spent over 30 years as a city solicitor in London and New York and latterly in Milan. Has been on the governing bodies of Sherborne School (Boys), Port Regis and Finton House (London). He currently has a portfolio of non-executive and advisory roles.

Mr Edward Hobhouse BSc Eng, MBA (Junior Warden and Chairman of BSG Committee)

Junior Warden and Chairman of BSG Committee

Engineer and international business executive. Brought up in Somerset and has returned to his home village after 10 years in Hong Kong. He is a Visitor of Sexey’s Hospital, Bruton.

Mrs Lisa Anderson CFP™ Chartered FCSI FPFS

BSG, Estates and Finance Committee

Lisa is a past boarding pupil and a former staff member of Bruton School for Girls. She is a Chartered Financial Planner and has her own financial planning business trading under the Continuum Partnership advising her clients on all aspects of wealth management. She is a Chartered Fellow of both the Personal Finance Society and the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments. Lisa lives with her partner Alan and spends time between Wells and Bristol.

Mr Robin Badham-Thornhill BA PGCE

Education Committee

A career in teaching began at King’s Bruton. This then led to the Headship of Lambrook School, followed by Summer Fields School. He now spends part of his retirement as Head of Development at Knightsbridge School.

Mr Christopher Birrell MA

Chairman of Finance and Member of Strategy Committee 

An Oxford geography graduate. He was a Chartered Accountant who has spent much of his working life in financial services and insurance. Married and lives nearby in Cucklington.

Mr Adam Clutterbuck ACIOB

Estates Committee

Qualified Building Surveyor who amassed experience in restoration, repair and insurance assessment at many levels including high value property and historic buildings. Currently involved in consultancy with insurance firms and loss adjustors. Lives near Salisbury

Mr Steve Donald Esq BA

BSG, Estates and Finance Committee

Steve recently retired as founder and Managing Director of a specialist management consultancy operating in the healthcare sector. Prior to that he held a number of senior executive positions with large healthcare providers and technology companies. He has a BA Hons in Business from the University of Portsmouth. Steve is a Governor of Salisbury Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and a Director and Trustee of Wessex Community Action. He is married to Lucy and they live in Salisbury. They have four grown up children who were educated wholly, or in part, in the Independent Sector.

Mr Gareth Evans BSc (Econ), PGCE

Chairman of Education Committee

Gareth was born, raised and educated in Wales. After graduating, he was recruited to British Steel at Cargo Fleet on Teesside, but quickly realised that a career selling steel was not for him. He returned to university to do a PGCE and discovered that teaching fitted him like a glove. He started his teaching career at Denstone College in Staffordshire and moved to King's Bruton in 1988 to be Head of Economics & Politics. He was Deputy Head at King's between 1996 and 2015 and retired in 2017. He is married to Jillian, who also taught at King's and they are the parents of two OBs. His passion is rugby union (he has retired from the game), but he also enjoys travelling abroad at off-peak times and singing with Wincanton Choral Society. An hispanophile, he has been learning Spanish since retirement. He also loves his garden and pulling on his walking boots. For the last four years he has been the Hon Sec and a Trustee of two local charities.

Mr Mark Fisher

Finance Committee

Served in the British Army for 5 years and then spent over twenty five years in corporate finance in the City. Most of this period was spent advising technology companies on mergers and acquisitions and fund raising. Presently a partner in a London based advisory boutique. Living near Sherborne.

Mrs Lorne Hodges BA

Risk Committee & E-Safety Governor

After an early career in luxury tour operating and property, moved to the technology sector, spending fourteen years assisting growth of the leading PropTech software solution with responsibility for service and operations. Since 2014, has worked independently advising and enabling organisational efficiency in SME businesses. Living near Sherborne and a current Hazlegrove parent.

Mr Justin Hopkins BA (Hons)

Chairman of Estates Committee and Member of BSG Committee

Spent seven years working in the City as part of McGuinness Finch / Osborne Clarke before moving to East Coker and becoming a partner at Dyne Drewett / Mogers Drewett Sherborne at which, from 2014, he has headed up the Commercial Property team. 

Mr Craig Lawrence CBE MA MSc FCMI

Risk Committee

Craig spent 33 years as a Gurkha officer in the British Army, leaving as a major general to become the course director at the Royal College of Defence Studies in London. He now writes books and runs his own strategy and leadership consultancy business. All 5 of his children attended either Hazlegrove and/or King’s.

Mr Julian Mant BA (Hons)

Governance & Chairman of Risk Committee

A partner based at the Bristol offices of a national law firm. He advises a range of clients within the leisure sector and specialises in property related work. His home is not far from either school.

Mrs Sarah Matthews BA (Hons)

Education Committee

Sarah is the serving Headmistress of Truro High School for Girls, where girls aged 3 through to 18 are educated. A graduate in Philosophy & Ethics, Sarah is a careers teacher and has worked in independent schools for over two decades in a variety of roles, ranging from leading the development of academic extension, to Head of Year, Boarding Housemistress and Deputy Head Pastoral. Sarah also spent some time working for the coeducational Harrow International School in Hong Kong as a Housemistress, and thus, has a first-hand understanding of international education. Sarah has been leading her school in Truro since 2018 and also serves the Girls' Schools Association at director level as their Honorary Treasurer.

Mr Giles Pretor-Pinney BSc (Hons), Chartered MCSI

Finance Committee

As a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment, Giles Pretor-Pinney has spent 29 years in the City as a banker and investment advisor. Ex-parent of both Hazlegrove and King's Bruton, living nearby in Somerton.

Ms Helena Sampson BA, MA, MBA

International Senior Vice President at Malin+Goetz, following tenure as International President at Huda Beauty, International VP at Nar Cosmetics, Laura Mercier and ReVive, Global CEO of the Sanctuary Spa Group and senior management roles with L'Oreal, Oxford University and Henley Management College. Helena is also an Old Brutonian.

Miss Jean Walker BEd (Hons)

Safeguarding Governor, Risk Committee & Education Committee

Serving ISI inspector with over 39 years of teaching experience: Head of Girls PE and PSHE at Clayesmore Preparatory School, followed by Housemistress of Farrell House at Wentworth College in Bournemouth before being appointed as Head of Middle School at St Mary’s Shaftesbury. During twenty-eight years at St Mary’s she was promoted from Head of Middle School, to Senior Mistress, to Assistant Deputy Head to her last position as Deputy Head (Pastoral & Academic), before retiring in August 2017.
