Physicists Examine The Search For Alien Life!

Physics Academic Events

On the evening of Monday 8th October, a group of Sixth Form Physicists went to Sherborne Girls’ School to attend a lecture on “The Search for Alien Life” given by Professor Brad Gibson from the University of Hull.

During the lecture, we heard a little about the roles that Astrophysicists have played in developing new technologies that have then proved useful in more everyday applications here on Earth. Professor Gibson then gave a thought provoking talk looking at the conditions necessary for complex life to develop and the difficulties of trying to find evidence for such life. Whilst he felt that no such evidence had yet been found, it was clear that he wanted to believe that we are not alone! We were certainly provided with food for thought and look forward to the chance to attend similar lectures in the future.
