King's Bruton

A Final Performance from Our Leaving Pupils & Mr Gorodi at the Leavers' Concert

Music Sixth Form

The Leavers’ Concert was, as always, tinged with a little sadness as we say goodbye to young musicians with whom we’ve worked with for last 5 years.

Henrietta C opened the concert, she played Arnold’s 'Allegro con Brio' from the Sonatina; Henrietta has a lovely rich sound, I think that this was perhaps her best performance, attention to articulation, great phrasing and a delightful tone throughout the register. Clara B sung 'Pie Jesu'. Clara has a beautiful high register, she makes a lovely sound. Vki C then performed the 1st Movement from Beethoven’s 'Sonata in C', I couldn’t help thinking back to when she played a concerto with the orchestra in the first term. Emma R sung Lehair’s 'Vilja', Emma has a stunning top register which is in much demand in this piece.

Clara B performed a lovely piece on the bassoon, 'Impromtu' by Glière, Clara’s lower register was fantastic to hear in particular. Harriet P then performed 'How Did it Come to This', I think this was her best performance, Harriet has a superb voice and was well suited to this song. Clara B and Kiara J then sung the 'Letter Duet' by Mozart. Both of the girls enjoyed the humour and acted out this delightful piece. Huw D continued the humour with Lehár’s 'The Masochism Tango'. It was great to see Huw enjoying the playful nature of this piece, this was a brilliant performance! Callum McF then played 'Mack the Knife' on the tuba; he has a really full and rich tone in both the high and low registers. Edward B sung 'Music of the Night', Edward has a superb range, his top Ab was jaw dropping!

As always this was a night to celebrate these young musicians talents, we will miss them terribly and wish them great success and happiness for the future. My congratulations to them all. A video of the concert and an album of photos from the evening can be seen below.

David Gorodi - Director of Music

'The Leavers' Concert was the best end to my 5 years of music at King's. Performing together with my friends was so lovely and very emotional! It has been such a privilege to have two musical geniuses to teach and accompany me - Mr Gorodi has definitely made up for his brutal but friendly comments by his awesome trumpet playing (I now see what all the fuss is about) and Mr Marshfield with his perfect pitch and perfecting accompanying. Thank you for this amazing opportunity, one I shan't forget.' - Clara B

'It was a wonderful concert and we can see all the music pupils in our year performing together. Mr Gorodi’s performance was fabulous, I can’t imagine he can play trumpet so well. Is was a great honour to be a music pupil at Kings.' - Vki C

'My last concert at King’s was both emotional and brilliant! Everyone performed to fantastic standards, with Mr Gorodi topping it off with an amazing trumpet parade. I will miss doing music at King’s, but I will definitely carry on singing in the future!' - Kiara J

'It was a beautiful concert that allowed musicians in our year to perform together which we have not been able to do for many years. The Leavers’ Concert allows us to view how we have progressed through our time at King’s as a group and individually. Mr Gorodi displayed his musical talent, within the concert, and stunned us all as well as each individual and group performance. I have loved my time within the music department thought the years and am sad to leave it.' - Harriet P

'The Leavers’ Concert was a great fun evening with incredible performances from everyone. It was particularly enjoyable to think back to the 3rd Form Concert in 2014 and see how everyone has progressed. Music has been such a huge part of my life the last 5 years, and it is surely going to be one of the things which I will miss about King’s the most. A fantastic finale!' - Calum McF
