Academic Success Life at King's

King's pupils have achieved A-Level, BTEC and GCSE success.

This has been a challenging and confusing year for pupils at all schools. I am proud of the way that King’s pupils, supported by our outstanding teachers, have worked tirelessly and with great maturity throughout their respective GCSE, A-Level and BTEC courses. Despite some late changes to the process for deciding and awarding grades, I am very pleased that pupils at King’s have had the opportunity to receive grades that reflect all their hard work and effort.

The departing Upper 6th Form had achieved record success in their GCSE exams, and it is no surprise that this year group achieved outstanding A-Level and BTEC results. Whilst all pupils deserve credit for the way in which they embraced their courses throughout the Sixth Form, I wish to congratulate them for the positivity and commitment that they demonstrated during the Summer Term with the switch to remote teaching and learning.

There is considerable success across all subjects, and I am pleased that 18 A-Level pupils achieved straight A*/A grades and 4 pupils achieved Distinction*/Distinction or Distinction/Merit in their BTECs. However, pupils of all abilities deserve great credit and it has been wonderful to see so much success on an individual level. Once again, the combination of A-Level and BTECs has helped provide support to many pupils, and allowed them access to many higher education options. I am also delighted that the hard work and effort demonstrated by our 5th Form pupils has been reflected in impressive results at GCSE across the board. There has been considerable individual success, with 10 pupils achieving straight 9/8/7 grades.

Of the 59 pupils in the U6th Form applying through UCAS, 54 have succeeded in securing places at their firm choice universities (with the vast majority of these occurring before the A-Level grade change). The most popular destinations this year include the universities of Exeter, Edinburgh, Cardiff and UCL. I am delighted to have Oxbridge and Veterinary success this year, and I am also very pleased to see the success of candidates who have studied BTECs alongside their A-Levels, which for many pupils has ensured access to prestigious universities. King's pupils have again been awarded places at universities across the globe, most notably in the Netherlands and USA. Furthermore, the diversity of King's pupils has seen others gain places at the prestigious Central St Martins, at flight school, and on apprenticeships. We are delighted to see pupils finding the path that suits them as individuals on leaving King's, and the School will continue to work to support pupils in finding their best-fit destination.

This has been an unprecedented year on many levels, and I look forward to welcoming pupils back for a more ‘normal’ new academic year. King’s Bruton pupils, staff and parents should be very proud of these excellent examination results.
