Keeping the flag flying

3rd Form Boarding

The 3rd Form boarders have the privilege of raising the School Flag every morning.

Come rain or shine, they usually meet with the Duty Senior Pupil at 0735 with the Flag. At the moment, they meet with Mr Jeffrey or Mr Gibbins (because of the Covid-19 restrictions), and hoist the flag up the flagpole that sits on top of the Old House Tower. It is the most difficult and awkward flagpole that Mr Jeffrey has ever seen, and the risk of getting it wrong is quite high. Add to that rain, snow, a frozen rope, high winds… and you have a task that has challenged many a 3rd Form pupil over the 10 years we have been doing this.

Pepe has had his first full week on duty, since arriving from Spain just before half-term. He is enjoying the experience and the boys do have a sense of pride in being part of an important and respected part of the School day.
