Headmaster - The resilience & positive attitude of our pupils & staff is impressive

Life at King's #KingsSpirit

The first half of this Easter Term was not what we all hoped for, but I continue to be impressed with the resilience and positive attitude of our pupils and staff.

It has been a real privilege for me to drop into many remote lessons, to see dynamic teaching and engaged pupils despite all the challenges of remote teaching and learning. The King’s Spirit has been a vital support for us all throughout these past weeks and it has been great to see Inter-House events continuing with a run/cycle challenge and a Virtual House Music Competition. My thanks to all the staff who have made these possible.

Life at King’s has not been completely quiet as there has been ongoing work by our Estates team in Wellesley to create extra girls’ accommodation, along with a new external path to the new Housemistress accommodation and an adjoining new staff flat.

The new pedestrian crossings at the crest of Plox, beside the Health Centre, coupled with the traffic calming outside the New/Blackford school entrance will provide increased pedestrian safety for us all.

I very much hope that all pupils will be able to return to King’s in March. I know that we will have to manage the new GCSE, BTEC and A-Level assessment procedures, alongside quarantine, mass testing and the restructure of the boys’ Houses. However, for the first time in many months we seem to be nearing the end of this pandemic, and nearing the end to disruption and uncertainty. As I've said before, a school is not about buildings, rather a school is about people and I can't wait to welcome pupils and staff back to King’s in March.

Floreat Brutonia!
