It was fantastic to see Callum McFarlane, (Old Brutonian 2014-2019), interview Hilary Benn MP.

We were delighted that Callum gained and subsequently accepted a place to study at the prestigious University of Chicago in 2019, choosing to major in History. Callum got the opportunity to interview Hilary Benn as part of the University of Chicago International Development Society.

Hilary Benn MP served in the Cabinet from 2003-2010, under both Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, and Callum had the chance to ask him about his time as Secretary of State for International Development, and in his various positions in the Shadow Cabinet, including Shadow Foreign Secretary. Callum asked some probing questions and it was great to hear Hilary Benn’s views on the recent changes to the Foreign Office and Development Aid, Brexit, Joe Biden and Scottish Independence.

This was a fantastic opportunity for Callum to interview and speak to an MP whom he had observed and admired for the way in which he had spoken in the House of Commons.
