It was a fascinating Tuesday evening at the Sixth Form Essay Society.

Hannah and Sophie spoke articulately and passionately on two very different topics to an engaged and supportive audience of fellow Sixth Formers in the Sixth Form Centre. Hannah discussed her EPQ in which she adapted a 4000 year-old myth of 'Ishtra’s Descent into the Underworld', to a modern school setting, to highlight themes of discrimination and inclusion. Hannah also took the unusual step of getting her story produced as an audio book and into braille to emphasise the importance of inclusion. Sophie focused on four artists, Duchamp, Paolozzi, Warhol and Hockney as she posed the question 'What is Art?'. She linked these four artists intelligently, whilst also introducing her own thoughts and feelings about her Art experience.

Hannah and Sophie answered the many questions with thought and confidence as we all discussed the important issues raised by both essays. Dr Corrigan had to curtail the questions, otherwise we may have been in discussion for another hour, but it was a very interesting evening and the audience gave Sophie and Hannah a well-deserved round of applause for their impressive essays.
