Cations have the WOW Factor in Chemistry

Chemistry 5th Form

5th Form have been studying how to perform chemical tests for different substances.

They carried out a practical using two different methods to identify particles called cations. You can identify which cations are in a mystery substance using either a flame test or a precipitate test.

Did you know that different cations burn with different coloured flames? Or that when you add sodium hydroxide to cations they instantly form an opaque cloud of colour called a precipitate?! Cations certainly have the wow factor!
