On Monday 30th November, a team of twelve pupils from King’s took part in an online Regional Inter-School Battle organised by Bristol Grammar School.

The event involved 120 pupils from ten different schools. Our pupils were scattered around: some in Orchard classrooms, some in Houses and some in their own homes. During the hour of quick-fire online chess games (up to 5 minutes for each player) King’s moved up the rankings to third place, then down to eighth place before rising again to finish in sixth place, with only two points (one win) separating us from the team in fifth place.

Our top players were Tyler (5th Form) and Max (L6th Form), with a very commendable 12 points each. All the King’s players took part in a good-natured and sporting manner, even when losing to some very skilful players from some of the other schools (one player from Wyedean School scored 34 points).
