On Sunday, a group of 24 pupils enjoyed a turbo-charged afternoon go karting at the Haynes International Motor Museums’ Test track.

Everyone attending had a fantastic time and really enjoyed the karting sessions, despite the best efforts of the rain to dampen spirits. Pupils were racing against each other in groups of 8 on the outdoor track at Haynes. The track is quite challenging; providing a fast and technical layout, with features like those found on a Formula 1 track. This includes the state-of-the-art start/finish gantry, with lighting and a technically advanced digital flag system.

When not racing pupils could watch their friends and ‘competitors’ battling on track, from the covered shelters or get track side and close to the action. Everyone had the opportunity to take part in two races. After each race, everyone received a detailed printout showing some performance statistics, including lap times, which were studied closely. On the way home from Karting at Haynes our happy crew stopped off at the ‘Golden Arches’ in Sparkford for an extra treat and to complete what was an exciting and fun packed event all round.
