On Tuesday, the L6^th Biologists took part in a Field Day which involved a Birds of Prey Workshop in the morning and a river sampling trip in the afternoon. 

The morning’s workshop was run by Pitcombe Rock Falconry and Alan Wells gave the pupils a fantastic insight into the lives of the six birds of prey he brought with him – focusing primarily on competition and predation, which was very relevant to the A Level Biology course. The highlight had to be Buka, the Golden Eagle with an 8ft wingspan; she really was impressive and very heavy to hold! 

In the afternoon, pupils headed to Miss Hoskins’ family farm where they carried out their Assessed Practical which involved river sampling and investigating how environmental factors affect the distribution of species. The L6^th Form got thoroughly stuck into the work and ended up getting rather wet due to misjudging the depth of the water!  After gathering some excellent data, the afternoon finished off with a cream tea which was very much appreciated by all!
