A Sports Roundup of Week 4...

It was a busy week of boys’ hockey with a full block fixture vs Monkton Combe as well as the 1^st XI defeating Wellington School 4-2 in R2 of the National Cup and the U16 boys losing on penalty strokes to Clayesmore after an excellent performance.

The U14As started the match as the dominant side and continued in this manner throughout the game as they both created and wasted numerous excellent goal scoring opportunities before Louis and Hugo assisted Will for a smart finish in front of goal. Max was voted player of the match with special mentions going to Archie and Mats who were excellent all game.

Netball v Wells Cathedral (and Warminster)

Most teams just played against Wells Cathedral, however 3 teams (2^nds, U15B and U14B) played a triangular against Wells and Warminster.

The U14Bs played two games on Saturday against Warminster and Wells Cathedral. Playing Warminster first, the girls continued to improve from their last game, showing good movement and passing. Winning 18-5, the player of the match was Mimi. Moving into the Wells game, the team continued in the same vein, showing good skills overall, even when playing completely out of position. Winning 22-0 the players of the match were Mimi and Izzy, although all the girls should be congratulated on another fantastic performance.

Rugby - Mount Kelly 10s Festival

King’s Bruton travelled to Mount Kelly on the 29^th January to play in the Mount Kelly 10s Festival. We had a tough pool but competed well against the likes of Exeter College and King’s Taunton. The day started of with a huge shock when Charlie went down injured in the first two minutes of the game against Exeter College with a nasty break. However, King’s Bruton dug in deep and I was impressed with their courage, but they just lacked the ability to convert pressure into points. Final score 21- 0. We then faced King’s Taunton who had a very good 15s season. Our target for this game was to score early and try our best to close them down in defence. After them scoring first, we managed to hold them out and Alex received a lovely cross-field kick from Oliver to score. King’s Taunton then manage to put some good phases of play together and sneak a few more tries in. Final score 28- 7.

This meant we were placed in the Bowl Competition; our first game was against Milton Abbey; they had a point to prove after narrowly beating them the previous week at our 7s competition. We started well with Ben and Oliver looking dangerous in attack and Javdat and James putting in some defensive hits. Final score 19-12. Try scorers - Ben (2) and Oliver. We then played Torquay Boys Grammar who looked strong in their previous games, the focus in this game was to keep the ball for longer periods of time to tire out their opposition. We did this well with Alex and Oliver controlling the game fantastically. Final score 14- 7. Try scorers - Ben and Jack. Our last game was against Kingsley School who struggled throughout the tournament; however, we didn’t want to make the same mistake as last week in our own 7s competition and lose the last game due to lack of concentration. Jack and Rian stepped up and ran hard at the opposition, everything seemed to finally click, we were playing some great running rugby. Final score: 22 - 0. Try scores - James, Rian, Alex and Oliver. This meant we came home with some silverware and won the Mount Kelly 10s Bowl Competition. We wish a speedy recovery to our star player Charlie and hope to see him back fit and ready for the 15s season.
