Art Educational Trips

On Tuesday 4th February the Sixth Form artists headed up to Bristol to carry out research for their exam preparation.

Our first stop was to the impressive Bristol Cathedral where the pupils had an opportunity to carry out some first-hand recording with their camera and then pencil. With their chosen title in mind they managed to relate their drawings into their theme. Practicing in the cathedral was a school band which made the experience a seminal one as their lovely electro-jazz music resonated throughout the vaults.

Our next stop was to the Bristol City Museum and Gallery. The pupils explored all three floors and there was something for everyone. It may have been Egyptian or Mesopotamian artefacts, Impressionist paintings, Modernist sculpture or their vast collection of stuffed birds and animals.

Next we headed off to Spike Island where we were given a guided tour of the site by some of the curators of the exhibition. There was plenty to see and take in such as the studios of working artists, gallery space, community projects and UWE Fine Art studios. The highlight was the scintillating exhibition of Filipino artist Pacita Abad with her sumptuous textile hangings.

Our final destination was at Centrespace Studios where the pupils partook in a workshop by illustrator Victoria Willmott. They created some lovely lino prints that highlighted their day in Bristol. All of the work that they created will be used as a starting point to their exam inquiries.
