The Silver Duke of Edinburgh Walking Practice Expedition to Exmoor Was a Huge Success

The two-day and two night practice expedition to Exmoor for the Silver DofE walkers was a huge success.

All 17 participants completed the challenge in spite of some very wet and windy weather on day one as they completed a 25km circuit beginning and ending at their Porlock campsite. This was swiftly followed by plummeting temperatures overnight, before the reward for their endeavours was a stunning coastal walk in glorious sunshine on day two. Finishing their expedition on the West Quay in Minehead brought to a close an outstanding performance from all three groups.

As is always the case, much was learnt. Besides discovering the hard way the importance of reading the map correctly, we also saw the emergence (rather too early in the morning) of Felix as a future pop Idol, the amazing matching bobble hats made for Bella's group by her ‘super-knitter’ mother, and the beauty of good old fashioned teamwork.

Mr Loveless would like to thank all of the pupils who took part, and also Mrs Hale, Miss Flavell, Mrs Portch and Mr Thompson for their contribution to making the trip such a success. Bring on Derbyshire!
