Life at King's Wellbeing

The Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl gave a talk to the new girls about moving into a co-educational school.

After speaking to Mrs Grant and discussing the new pupils, we thought it was a good idea to talk to some of the new girls that had just arrived at King’s. A large group of girls started with us who had previously been at Bruton School for Girls and St. Mary’s Shaftesbury, which are both girls schools. We arranged to meet them in the Theatre with our bubbles safely socially distant from each other.

Moving schools is always hard and especially during these times it can be a lot more challenging. We spoke to them about the challenge of moving school and aspects they might find different here, for example attending a school with boys. We wanted to share advice from our experience. Amy mentioned that whilst they look large and intimidating, once you start talking, they are like big teddy bears - very kind and gentle. We encouraged them to ask as many questions as they could because they will benefit from the answers that they get and new friendships in all year groups will follow.

Finally, we felt it important to convey the overall ethos of the School, to inform them that we have a supportive and friendly atmosphere where everyone is willing and wanting to help. With all new pupils, we want to encourage them to throw themselves into everything they can as that is one of the beauties of going to a smaller school - you can develop new talents you never knew you possessed!
