New House had new windows installed over the Easter break

Building and Construction Projects Boarding

New House may not be so ‘new’ anymore, having been built in 1872, but the majority of the windows can genuinely live up to their title having been replaced over the Easter Holidays.

The existing windows had served generations of pupils well, but did not meet modern safety standards and were extremely draughty to say the least. The project was delayed from the Summer of 2020 due to the pandemic, but has now been completed with the help of Gillingham Glass. The new windows meet modern building regulations for thermal efficiency, Health and Safety regulations and make the rooms far more comfortable for the pupils. The repaired stone mullions with the carefully selected windows improve the look of the House as a whole. During the project, the School maintenance team took the opportunity of the scaffolding to inspect and conduct any necessary repairs to the roof and leadwork. New House is now ready for the next 100 years.

The new windows have been eagerly anticipated by the New House boys and there is already a notable difference in temperature whilst also being more environmentally friendly. The new blackout-lined curtains installed as part of the refurbishment have also been very welcome in updating the look of New House. We are now prepared for a cold winter!
