A successful Gold Award DofE practice expedition for Sixth Form pupils.

From Saturday 29th to Monday 31st May, 17 Sixth Form pupils undertook the practice expedition for their DofE Gold Award. After a difficult year for the DofE Scheme, with many participants being unable to complete their expeditions due to travel restrictions, it was absolutely fantastic to see King’s pupils enthusiastically walking, despite the weight of a backpack full of kit!

Pupils completed three full days of walking around the local Bruton area, covering up to 22km a day, and camped overnight on Farr Field. We were incredibly lucky with the weather, and the pupils’ navigation skills were not as rusty as initially feared! Pupils also had the chance to practice the valuable campcraft skills which will be essential for wild camping on Dartmoor for their Qualifier Expedition.

Well done to all of the pupils involved - I am looking forward to taking you to Dartmoor and see you complete your awards! My thanks also go to Mr Loveless, Miss Miles and Mrs Vigers-Belgeonne, as well as all of the parent helpers who assisted to help make the weekend a great success.
