A record amount of food donations for the Brue Larder Foodbank

Charity Chaplaincy

Last Wednesday, 28th September, we held our annual Harvest Festival Chapel Service...

It was wonderful to gather in St Mary’s, reflect on God’s generosity as the supreme provider, and to ponder what he calls us to do with the provisions we have. Indeed, we spent time considering the challenging Biblical message seen in Matthew, chapter 25, verses 34 to 43. Here Jesus Christ reminds his disciples that, “whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” It’s a powerful call for us to be a people and community who cares for “the least” - the weakest and most vulnerable people we know of. For the way we treat them is a reflection of how we treat God. And it’s no surprise that currently there is a growing amount of people who are “least” - due to the cost-of-living crisis, there is a vast amount of vulnerable people in need of food.

Thus, it was excellent to see so many pupils and staff generously donating provisions for the local BrueLarder Foodbank. A record amount of food has been donated, and it will make a massively positive difference. Furthermore, the flurry of pupils eager to help sort through the food donations and box them up has been very encouraging. The challenge is: how will we each seek to ensure that we adopt a posture of helping “the least” around us, not just once a year, but day-by-day. A challenge indeed, but one that can be met when we turn to and trust in the strength God provides.
