In Assembly, we launched our new School Charity Justice and Care - Joining forces to end modern slavery. Fiona, an Ambassador from the charity, told us that in the UK today there are over 100,000 enslaved people hidden in brothels, nail bars, car washes and construction sites. There are about 50 million enslaved people worldwide. Justice and Care use funds to pay for Navigators who give intensive support to victims, help secure the arrests of suspected traffickers and help the survivors. This is a very worthwhile charity and we already have House charity events, a 6th Form themed dinner and a colour run planned to raise money for the charity.

I was inspired to choose Justice and Care to be our school charity after a moving talk that we had from Fiona from Justice and Care last year. I believe that human trafficking and slavery is a very important issue, and one that not many of us know to be such an issue in today’s society. Many of us think that it doesn’t happen in our local area. Supporting Justice and Care this term will not only help the charity, but help raise awareness about this issue to the pupils at King’s Bruton so that we can become more aware at spotting the signs and help to make a difference.

Over 50 million people are enslaved today. Slavery exists in every country worldwide, and is a rapidly growing crime. Justice and Care work to spot victims in modern slavery and help to dismantle the criminal networks, they work across borders and educate communities that are at risk of being trafficked who live in danger of being approached and coerced by traffickers every day. Not only this, but they help survivors re-establish their lives and prosecute the traffickers to prevent this from happening. Justice and Cares work doesn’t stop when they have prosecuted the traffickers, they continue on the journey with the victims to ensure that they remain safe and help them to rebuild their lives and find stability and safety.

By supporting Justice and Care this term through fundraising, our donations will enable them to carry on with their incredible work to bring people to justice to make the world a safer place. Every donation we give Justice and Care will help to make progress in stopping slavery and raising awareness to make the world a safer place.

Whether it is through fundraising or spreading awareness, we have the chance to make a difference, so please get involved and be creative with ways to raise money for Justice and Care to help those in need.
