Royal Navy Cadets were tested on their Leadership and Teamwork skills to complete an underwater survey of 'jettisoned evidence' on the bottom of Hazlegrove pool.
Cadets were not briefed for this task, instead they received their instructions by email. It was the responsibility of the leader to take charge of their team and complete their interpretation of the task using only the equipment provided. Various obstacles were introduced to reflect real working challenges, including 'illness and injury', 'missing' equipment and leaders having to change groups half way through the exercise and pick up where somebody else had left off. It was impressive observing how Cadets interacted and a thorough debrief was used to highlight what went well and suggestions for how it could be improved upon. All in all, everybody had opportunity to reflect on their approach to collaborative working. A valuable skill for life.
